Taksim Square – The Heart of Istanbul
No matter where you go in Istanbul, you’ll likely go to Taksim. You may just be passing through – it is, for all intents and purposes, considered the center of modern Istanbul. Or you may be visiting the Monument of the Republic, a landmark statue that sits in the square, commemorates the founding of the modern Turkish state in 1923. Located in the European part of Istanbul, Taksim Square is a major public square, tourist and leisure district and public meeting place. The area around Taksim is packed with restaurants, shops, cafes, and attractions and it is a central meeting place for social gatherings. As a visitor, staying at a hotel near Taksim will ensure that you have convenient access to much of the city. This is especially true if you plan to take any trips outside the center of the city, as Taksim is a hub of Istanbul’s metro, tram, and bus networks.

The non-refundable card costs 6 TL, which offers a discount of about 10 per cent on the already cheap prices on public transport. An added bonus: the card is valid for up to 5 people. The metro station at Ataturk Airport is located at the ground level. The first station on the line is the airport itself, and the Hotel Büyük Keban is at the final station, named “Aksaray”. After exiting the metro at Aksaray, keep walking towards Laleli and make a left on Gencturk Caddesi. (Gencturk Avenue). The Hotel Büyük Keban will be on your left at the end of the street.
