How to Enjoy Bursa During a Trip to Istanbul

When visiting Istanbul, you’ll find that there’s a great deal to see and do, and not all of it is within the city limits. Travelers from around the globe make the time to visit the ancient city of Bursa and take in the sights in this impressive region. Located just across the Sea of Marmara, public transportation is available to take you from the Old City of Istanbul to the home of the Ottoman Empire’s founding sultans.

Take It Easy

Once you arrive in Bursa, you may feel overwhelmed by all that there is to see and do. One option is to give yourself permission to relax and stroll through the city. You won’t see all of it, but you’re sure to go home with some incredible memories. There are stunning examples of Ottoman architecture throughout the region. You just might stumble across the Royal Springs, which have been fed by calcium-, sulfur-, and magnesium-rich thermal springs since Roman times. There’s no telling what you’ll find when you head out for a leisurely stroll, and that can be an important part of the adventure.

Focus on a Theme

The city is host to amazing restaurants, some of the most impressive architecture in the world and amazing religious sites. Another option is to follow a theme. Compare the different religious sites, and enjoy all that the city has to offer as you make your way from one location to the next. Make the decision to enjoy the local cuisine in between stops at historic attractions. Narrowing down the list of sights and venues can help simplify your trip and allow you to enjoy the visit more.

The Guided Tour

Another option is to turn the day over to a tour guide and then just enjoy the adventure. You can choose tours based on specific historic spots or other criteria, and the guides are a font of wonderful information. They can point out things you might miss on your own, and you won’t have to worry about getting lost along the way. In addition to full day tours, you can also sign up for tours of places like the Green Mosque or the Botanic Park.

Limit the Visit

With so much to do in the city, you may also choose to simply limit your visit to one or two of the larger venues. You can easily spend a day in the Uludag Mountains or touring the historic village of Cumalikizik located at the base of the mountains. If shopping is something you really enjoy, then you might want to spend some time at the Covered Market.

Planning a successful trip to Bursa starts with finding the right hotel for your stay. In addition to knowing what you’ll do in the city, you also need to know how you’re getting there in the morning.
